Default Blank and Kit Storage

I have been keeping all of my blanks in a couple drawers stacked 2 and 3 deep and got tired of searching for what I wanted. I made this 2 story storage unit out of 1/2" ply, it is 4' long and the shelves will hold a 6" blank. I was able to get all of my best acrylic pen blanks and stopper blanks out where I can see them. I also freed up enough drawer space to organize my wood blanks.

Pen kits and bushings went into parts cabinets with the drawers labeled.

Pretty simple but I think it will make things much easier.

That's just way too much organization for me but it sure looks good!!

I have an old card filing cabinet that holds my blanks in 3 drawers, another drawer for the kits ... Pete has one drawer. I also have blanks in a couple boxes on the floor, in plastic bins in the closet, in the garage, sitting on the china cabinet in the house ...

Thumbs up

This is a good job--I like when it's clean and easy to find;
We do such a mess when we turn, so keep the shop in shape!

You`re just trying to give Les a run for his money! Seriously, I wish I could get that organized but I probably would get anything turned either!

Gee I like pickles too but not that many

you guys with your super-hyper-organized-neat-as-a-pin work areas ... mine is a work in progress ...

My neighbor who makes custom fine furniture has offered to make me benches (with rollouts for the Miter saw, table saw, and a rod building bench area after I finish with my conversion ... (insulation is in and the sheet rock on the walls and ceiling)

What you can't see is the belt sander, miter saw and router set up for mortised inserts.

And the box fan in the pic is fastened to one of the wood lathes I use to make grips on and will be wheeled out today to do two grips.

The 7x12 metal lathe (yellow piece between the foam pieces) has been largely unused due to being awkward to get at and I need to finish adjusting it as it will not turn anything in a 4" without a 6º taper.

OH ... the best thing about this pic is the lighting source. they are 'natural bulbs' and even in the dead of winter they make it look like natural sunlight in there so you can see the actual color of the objects being turned.

I can't really tell how that would work in my shop.

Can you throw a few shovels worth of sawdust over them so I can
get a better idea how it would look? Thanks.

My wife said the same thing when she opened the garage door ...

Well, I'm going to strip them down for the thread tensioners and motors and speed controllers.

They will either make there way to ebay for rod builders who want to make power wrappers or thread wrapping machines.

I traded two wood pallets for them ...

It's not as bad (unless you are a melancholy-hyper-neat-freak like my wife).

I have paths (clear) to all my equipment.

Just need find an electrician to wire up the box. Ran wires to the service box before putting on drywall so I can have a few outlets along one wall for the tools.

Most of the stuff is when we moved from a 2500sq ft house to a 1300sq ft ... a lot of this will make it's journey up into the attic now that I have one (actually two in the garage).

She has these Norman Rockwell houses (and other stuff) she has collected over the years that have been boxed up and will make its way to ebay also.

Trying to talk her into getting rid of a few Thomas Kincade paintings but so far have met resistance in this arena .... told her I'm willing to sell a few of my guns but so far she hasn't budged ...
