Hi,

I made these salt & pepper shakers out of lightly spalted maple and blue dyed maple. They have interesting grain though the spalting is minimal.

Terry,

That is why the top ones have a larger base :)

Yes they are top heavy, I even thought of putting some weight in the bottom to help out, but my wife decided to bring them to work before I could do so, I guess it isn't too much of a problem for her

If I end up doing more, I believe I will not make a neck at the bottom and just make them wider (we'll see).

Thanks for the comments,

Very nice Marcel, i like the design of the first 2 the best.
Do you treat the inside of the shakers with anything.??
Where do you get the caps from??

Good job Marcel! I like the top ones best. The other ones are pretty dark.
Cheers

Andy,

There is an acrylic bottle that you glue in the hole, so you could treat the inside like the outside, but I left mine natural.

I used hot glue to glue the bottles. They recommend silicone, but none was handy, as epoxy could react with the plastic bottles. Hot glue worked well for me, you just need to be quick. And if you're not, just pop the shaker minus the metal cover in the microwave for 10 seconds at a time and it will melt the glue should you need to reposition a bottle, DAMHIK.

I got mine from Lee-Valley (http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=1&p=49916&cat=1,330,43243,50237&ap=1)

Terry,

That is $8.50 for one set of shakers, not one shaker.

But you are right that they are more expensive than CSUSA (http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/store/Projects___Kitchenware___Salt___Pepper_Shaker_Set_ __shakers?Args=) which lists them for $5.25 on their website.

Marcel
