Polyester Resin casting I poured yesterday and turned this morning.
Used one layer of Almond Church Windows and some Blue Neck Tippets.
Sanded to 400 grit, buffed with fine steel wool and polished with Huts Ultra Gloss.

OH MY GOSH LES .
Just when I thought there was no more room left for improvement with your casting and finish and photography, you have bumped it up yet another notch.

Fantastic work.

Hi Les

I won't gush too hard. Unmanly and all that. ;)

There is a very beautiful pen coming in the near future. :)

I assume the feathers are over a black painted tube. How would feathers like that look over a white one?

Actually the the tube was left "au natural".
May try white on the next one.

That is what I suspected Les.
I figured the golden pheasant name you gave it was the natural color of the feathers rather than the tube showing through . So is part of the coloring from the brass tube and part from the feathers ?
As I have never done any casting I am learning a lot from you which will help when I try it eventually.
This has aroused my curiosity . Do you try to cover the tube completely with feathers so it doesn't show the tube or do you purposely loosely cover it in order to show brass or white or whatever color you choose to use .
Or are the feathers translucent enough that they will show through even if they completely cover the tube.

The majority of the coloring on this one is from the brass tube.

Still experimenting on the feather placement on various colored tubes.

Thanks Les.
Goes to show how much I 'don't' know about gluing feathers on to brass tubes. A person sure learns a lot by asking.
