Hi All,
Making shredded money blanks is easier compared with the feather blanks.
I spent the last 3 weeks trying to cast feather blanks. I want them to look like fishing rods. I am not quite there yet, but happy enough to post the following somewhat successful attempt.
Pictures 1 & 2 - the guinea fowl feather blank: tube painted Americana lavender acrylic.
Picture 3 - grizzly hackle: tube painted Folk Art metallic copper acrylic
P.S. I will not be assemble these blanks to pen - will do that with the next batch.
Thanks for looking.

Well done Brandon....I have all my stuff made up, I just don't have the time to sit down and tie everything to the tubes.
That reminds me....I did manage to pick up some Alumilite in Toronto at Plastic World.

Great blanks Brandon, I like the Guinea fowl feathers, I get a lot of them when I prune their wings.
What is a grizzly hackle?

Looking???? this grizzly hackle dressed in copper is outstanding:D:D
Why will not this beautiful copper blank grace a pen? I'd personally be proud to own something like this.
I hope you have a grizzly chicken running around your backyard that was kind enough to donate a feather or two for this blank ...
I buy a grizzly hackle every year to tie flies with and if it's a cape they are not exactly cheap.

What are you ... an Aussie torturer of these things? Or do you hunt them for the supper table?
What is a grizzly hackle?
Grizzly hackle is the feathers off this type of chicken ...

Other types of chicken who donate their feathers for a worthy cause called fly fishing and would make a worthy cause for pen casting. :)

And if you feel real rich and have a few $$$ to throw away you can have one of these Jungle Cocks for $200

All these birds are grown by a local fly fisherman and fly tier for other fly tiers and I've enjoyed being out to his chicken ranch to see all these beautiful birds

Me no Aussie torturer :p I just cut their wings to stop them flying out the chook yard.
The next door neighbour dog killed a couple when they jumped the fence, so I am saving their lives.
They are my second favourite poultry. yum-yum :D

Ron,
I have seen pictures of Jungle Cocks feathers, but not in person. They are beautiful, rare and expensive.
Where do you usually buy your feathers?

Yes ... on a live bird that are exceptional.
Where do you usually buy your feathers?
Pheasants and grouse and Hungarian Partridge donate their feathers every hunting season. I have a bunch of blue pheasant feathers sitting here to try and cast with when it's warm enough.
Grizzly and the rest I get enough fliers from tackle shops I just wait until a good sale is going.
There is a lady who sells on one of the fly fishing forums and I'll look for her info and send it to you.
Most fly tying feathers are premium and you don't need that for casting.
I did buy a golden pheasant crest off ebay for $1.00 that is going to be for pens
