Hi All,

I bought a General International 4" chuck and have a question about it!

I know how it works and how to use it from my metal working days, but there was one part that i have no clue as to what it does or how it fits into the chuck!

I think it is the worm screw but do not know for sure or how it is used.

I have attached a picture of it so thta someone may hopefully shed some light on it for me.
It is the part at the bottom right of the picture.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

AndrewHi Andrew; It may be a worm screw, but the thread doesn't look as coarse as the ones I have that came with my Oneway chucks.

The worm screw of the Oneway sits inside the chuck like this pic shows. See if yours will fit inside and be held by the jaws of the chuck as this one is.

Other than that I don't know. Maybe someone else can help!

Methinks it is GI's idea of a wood worm. It should lock into the chuck.

as i know it the wormscrew is used to hold blanks as in bowl blanks. a hole one size smaller than the screw is drilled in the blank. then screwed on and held by the chuck. this allows shapping of the base of the bowl and macking a reces to hold the bowl in the chuck
