Just thought I would post a photo of the light tent I made for myself. In time perhaps I'll even learn how to take a decent picture too:eek:

Cheap fast and easy thats the way I see this tent. Oh ya those are kitchen garbage bags hanging off the sides with a daylight bulb on each side. (outside)
When I'm done I just wrap everything (except the paper) in the bags & put 2 elastics around it.

Hope this helps someone.

FWIW thats my pen press in the bottom left corner.

Colin i was using white drawing paper made into a box like with 2 lights, i kept getting a yellow look to them. I ran windows photo gallery and hit the fix buton and it took the yellow away. If you lok at my pictures you will see the out come. Aslo you can adjust the contrast and brightness in the phot gallery.

Hi guys, walmart carries a light studio kit, which includes pretty much everything you need except the camera. It costs $70.00 in Nova Scotia likely cheaper in larger cities. :)

I bought that kit at the local Office Depot store and tried it out it is too small. I am looking for one that is about 24"x24"x24". No matter how I tried to set it up I just could not get a good clear picture. But what do you expect for $39.99. I am thinking that I just might have to make one instead.

Steve

any idea where this outfit is located????

Thanks

I have made two different light tents over the years from online instructions . No luck with those and scrapped them. . Tried the Walmart one and it was awful and returned it . Tried a so called better one from another source and it was worse and returned it .
Then I tried something plain and simple and I am having good luck with it.
These reflectors are clamped on a shelf above my freezer. They have daylight spiral flourescents in them . Hard to see in this picture but there is a plain ordinary piece of 8.5 x 11 printer paper on the freezer to prevent glare from the paint on the freezer lid . There is a pen sitting on it .
I can take pictures with this any time day or night with equal results

One of my sons from Alberta that is a camera buff was here on holidays a few weeks ago and showed me how to set my ISO and white balance and a few other settings . I am still practicing but here is one of my pictures taken with it recently .

Moral of this story is that you can spend all the money you want on fancy light tents and parafanalia but until you learn how to use the features of your camera you will be going through a hit and miss process of taking decent pictures.

My biggest problem now is that it is showing every spec of dust and every little defect in my work . Can't win 'em all . LOL

All that dust and specs are called details. and the truth is it means two things. one you have at least some of the set up as good as it can get. the other thing is that you now have to think a lot more about your polishing routine before you snap the picture.
you have a really nice picture there but I would still suggest you defuse the lights some how. otherwise color, exposure and detail all look real good.
next is learning that different types of light are different. They actually have different colors in them. that is what the white balance in your camera is really doing. it tells the camera to add more blues than it woujd normally when taking pictures under incandescent light etc.

Super cheap, I think I spent $10.00 on the PVC pipe.
24” square, and you can see the clamp on lights work fine.
Like William, I use fluorescent bulbs.
The frame is simply pushed together, no glue…
When not in use, it hangs on a hook from the wall out of the way.
Backdrops can be anything from a piece of cloth, like I am using here, to poster board…
