Told my doctor I would bring him one. He likes the larger pens so I went with a cigar. Walnut with maple strips sandwiched between a piece of a coke can. Hardest part was the glue up everything wanted to slip. He better like it.:)

Coke can?! That's really cool.......and you just turn it like anything else, or is there a trick to it?
Nice job,

Just cut it to size with scissors, scratch up whatever coating they have on both sides with 80 grit sandpaper and glue it in place with CA. It's lightweight aluminum so you can turn it with HSS tools when it's sandwiched between a couple pieces of wood. The hardest part was the glue up, because it was on an angle everything wanted to slide. I finally glued one end of the blank pieced to a sacrificial board then stuck on thick ca and pushed it all together.

Beautifully done, Rick. I sympathize with trying to hold things together. My first beer can inserts were glued to my fingers for quite a while.

Wow, I love that! I'm going to have to cut up a couple cans, I think.
That pen is outstanding, and you did it with pretty common woods, nice work :D

Rick, that's great! The coke provides a nice clean line separation line. Kudos!
