So to appease Terry:

I'm Grant Wilkinson. I was born and raised in Windsor Ontario, but have lived in Ottawa for 27 years. I've worked for the Federal Government for 32 years and am REALLY, REALLY looking forward to retiring in about a year.
I live with my partner of 12 years - no children or dogs. Dogs are in the future, though.
I started woodworking as a flatter, and still really enjoy that side of things. I've made all our bedroom oak furniture and a few tables. I have the equipment to start with rough sawn, so I don't have to sort through 80 pieces of Home Depot oak to find 5 straight pieces.
I started turning early this year, by taking a pen turning class at Lee Valley Tools. I figure that $45 course has cost me thousands since. (I know that you all can relate.)
I took a bowl turning class with Bill Grumbine a month or so ago, and I am not completely hooked on that side of turning, too.
My only lathe is a Jet Mini VS with a bed extension.
I have a mole on the lower left side of my back.

Gee am I the only one not close to retirement??

Thanks for sharing Grant!

I'm not close either Louis. I've got lots more 'pensionable' time left before retirement.
I agree with you Grant on the Home Depot comment - I've given up on them. Have you been to The Wood Source in Manotick? Lots of goodies there.

Yes, I've been there. I'm lucky in that one of my Algonquin instructors and I have become quite close friends. He is a fine furniture maker by profession, and I can buy all from rough sawn from him. I'm spoiled by off cuts, too. :)

Good write up Grant. It,s good to know a bit about all of us addicted folks. I too still have at 4-5 years to retire. I'd like to now but can't afford to lose the benifits.
