I need some info on a company I made some orders with, I ordered some bits and pieces on the 13 july got the online confirm order mail, then nothing.I didn't think about it too much ,as most stuff takes a couple of weeks to arrive from the states.Problem is I checked my bank accounts and no money has been taken for the items. I have emailed a few times no answers, and tried ringing ,but only get an answering machine to leave message, not practical as I doubt they will ring Australia. The company name is Steebar in new jersey, subsequent enquiries seem to indicate this is not uncommon with this particular company, this is not a rant or condemnation of the company, just wonder if other members have any better info to share.I dont want to go and reorder the stuff elsewhere only to find it turn up in a couple of months out of the blue ,so to speak.:(

Hows it going! After a fair bit of research I've found there are some good suppliers over here and they can have the stuff on you doorstep/mailbox within days. Still haven't found one store that has all I want but its always good to shop around. Let your "mouse do the walking" so to speak.

Well update ,not a word from steebar in spite of my mails to them, but I noticed they took the money for my 2 orders a few days ago, and lo and behold one of the orders turned up today , the box was marked $27 postage , but the invoice said $8.50 ,buggered if I can understand them at all. But sent them a thankyou anyway, fingers crossed hehe, Like when I was an apprentice and got sent to the store for a "long wait" . So it was posted on the 17th july arrived 28 june .
I shall just have to slow my production to match the mails hehe! Done my first 36 pens in 2 weeks ,and that was my initial purchase of kits ,worst of being retired you have lots of time to fill in.:)

Good to see that they haven't let you down. Have you seen the website www.addictivepenkits.com.au. Based in Sydney and are well worth a look. They have good quality gear and are a wealth of information. Theres probably nothing wrong with the overseas suppliers but the freights a killer. You must be having a real crack at it to turn so many in such a short time. I wish my wife would let me retire and turn full time. Still I spose I'm only 36.

Yep! got some stuff from Brett already, and yesterday drove to currumbin and picked up some stuff from gary pye. saw some nicely finished pens as well hehe.
I do have a trade background as a retired fitter and turner so machining is almost a natural thing for me ,and as it turns out wood has some different rules but basically the same thing. My next thing will be a better and lasting finish, but will not try the CA for a while as it sort of takes some of the natural feel of the wood away for me ,will do some plastics or acrilics as well in the future,as well as some of the more difficult pens, being on a pension means that I have to keep costs down a lot at this point as you all know it can be a killer hehe!as to the mrs,its supposed to be her hobby to keep her off my metal lathe :)

Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on things. A good finish for timber blanks is Shellawax Glow. A friction polish that is as easy to apply as burning your fingers. ( blisters can be fun) It wont polish to a brilliant shine but still looks quite soft and almost antique. I use it a lot on burls
