I wonder if it is possible to have a wood identification section for novices like me ,that can hardly tell knotty pine from redgum:( I know its probably a major sort of job to compile such a thing in full, but maybe just some general family type classifications,or links to such places as may have done this already :), Me I am just gonna play dumb hehe! cheers .

I had the same problem when i started getting in to turning :) I found a book what helped me a lot and wasn't (very important) expensive. The book talks about a 150 different wood species with a lot of information like how the wood finishes, turns, what the strait or burl look like with a lot of pictures, possible health risks when working with the wood. That made me upgrade to a better dust collecter system.
The title of the book is Wood for Woodturners by Mark Baker.
Hope this helps
