I am travelling in Japan right now and spent the day touring Kyoto and Nara and came across this cedar tree at one of the temples. Unfortunately I couldn't get where I could get a better picture of the whole tree but I think you can get the idea of the size based on the people standing beside it. One tour guide mentioned it was over 800 yrs old and the other mentioned almost 1000 yrs old so it is somewhere in that neighbourhood.

Lucky Guy Jamie! I'm jealous. Always wanted to go to Japan. We have had about 15 Japanese college students stay with us over the years.

It is a great place to visit and I enjoy the time I spend here but I am a little homesick right now and need a break from the travelling. Since September I have been here 5 times and the kids aren't crazy about me coming all the time. We are wrapping up the Japan portion of the program I am working on so I think this will be it for a while. There is another one coming up but I haven't had the perverbial tap on the shoulder yet indicating I will be helping with it.
