I hope this is the right spot for this.
I received a gift box in the mail yesterday and I can identify all the wood except for this piece.

It is fairly fine grained and in some light seems to have some lacing in it but it is not heavy like Cocobolo or Blackwood.
Anybody have any ideas?

To me it looks like Pink Ivory.

Almost looks like some Aromatic Cedar I got from Windsor the other day?

Tulipwood, with a little sap wood on the edge, or Pink Ivory...Pink Ivory will change color, (darken) after it is cut... tulipwood's color remains the same.

Well I'll throw my 2 cents in I guess.
Pink ivory is very heavy & a little oily so I would rule out that one.
Chatke kok is a darker red with a cream sapwood but your description is close.
Aromatic cedar...could be but I think the color is wrong for that.
Tulipwood I wouldn't know. I've never had any.
Dymondwood I doubt...isn't that stuff heavy? Again I've never had any.
Juniper I've never had either but from the pictures I've seen online the color seems right.
I don't have a guess, but I thought I would give my thoughts on what you've got to work with here. So far I would say juniper or tulipwood but I've never tried either of those. The smell test might help.
I see that it turned quite brown on top where it has been exposed to the air for some time, that might help identify it. Also the sapwood looks pinker than the heartwood if that is indeed sapwood heartwood that we are seeing.

It's definitely not Dymondwood. I would say it is some kind of Rosewood. It also it could be Redheart, which will turn brown on the outside before being turned. It is also quite light.

Thanks for all the replies and help.
After some on line research, I believe it is Pink Ivory.
There was no smell when I turned it so Juniper and Aromatic Cedar was out.
Dymond wood is definately out ... this is natural, not manmade.
I have Tulipwood and this doesn't match.
In the pics I found online, the exposed parts even match the brown of the pieces I have so I will call it Pink Ivory.
Now I just have to figure out what to do with it.
Thanks for all your help,
Tom

What you have is Tulipwood for sure.I have several big pieces that look just like that.Pink ivory has not such distinct figuring as the piece in your picture.I also looked it up in my Wood Dictonary.

Peter, I think you are right.
The Tulipwood I have is nowhere near the color of this piece. I went to the web and had a look and my mystery wood does match the color and description of real Tulipwood.
